“Among all forms of mistake, prophecy is the most gratuitous.”

– George Eliot

When responder to a major-suit opening bid has a 10-count with three trumps, he has three ways to describe his hand. If he has extra shape (say a side-suit singleton or extra length in a side-suit), he might jump directly to three of partner’s suit. More typical, though, is to downgrade the hand into a constructive raise to two of partner’s suit, or to upgrade the hand via the forcing no-trump to a balanced limit-raise.

This was what today’s North did. South, with concentrated values in his two suits and decent high cards, had an easy acceptance of the invitation.

In four hearts, declarer must not pin all his hopes on a 3-3 split in clubs, since he can make provision against a 4-2 split as well. West leads the spade 10, which South allows to hold the trick. After winning the spade continuation, what next?

After taking the heart ace and king, declarer should next lead out the three top clubs. If the clubs split 3-3, he can draw the last trump and claim. If the clubs split 4-2 and the third round is ruffed, dummy will have a trump to ruff the fourth club. Nothing has been lost, since the contract would always have gone down one.

However, if the clubs split 4-2 and the defender who is long in clubs also has the last heart, the contract can be made by ruffing the fourth club before pulling the last trump.

South Holds:

ANSWER: Your partner’s use of the fourth suit is conventional. It is artificial and game-forcing and asks you to describe your hand further. With no real support for your partner and no diamond stop, the cheapest call of two hearts is the least lie. It does not promise six hearts, merely a rebiddable five-card suit, or better. For details of Bobby Wolff’s autobiography, The Lone Wolff, contact theLoneWolff@bridgeblogging.com. Network Marketing Tip - master degree psychology for mass appeal lead generation

Every successful network marketer knows that you have to know what your potential customers think and talk directly with their concerns, hopes and wishes.

One on one prospectingIf you follow your company's recommendations and call your family and friends, probably have a "success story" to share with prospects, the following basic structure:

I was once...I felt mich...Dann I... And now I have...

In theory, that should work. People want someone else, especially to refer to, if you are successful.

But the truth is, not everyone is a great storyteller. Not everyone has the ability to inspire every time when a story to tell. More to the point is not everyone in the position your network marketing experience inspiring way to vermitteln. Also, if in addressing groups-a conference or a Präsentation--can you add very well lose every prospect in the room when you move unable to touch and inspire you.

Throw in the fear that many people have to speak publicly and have a recipe for why many people in network marketing by trying "directly and in real-time view." It is simply because so specify a group of 50 people and 10 you characters have, does not mean you can not duplicate Lage.Nur.

Internet network marketing: the audience levelThe Internet offers the possibility of this type Prospektion.Aber because your prospecting is not-to-one, you just know the person, and use this know, to connect wish now, mass must use mass prospecting and, to connect with your prospects.

This means that you have address basic human needs. And basic human reason.Things which would average normal person to respond.
If you told your network marketing opportunity are one hundred people, you can time spending to determine individual expectations.

There are two things which everyone responds:

1. Gain pleasure 2. Avoiding pain (in short: WIIFM [what's in it for me?])

Most of our decisions are based on Emotion.Emotionen drives sales and responds to benefits (receiving pleasure/avoid pain). Logic justifies the Emotion.Auch in Network Marketing.mithilfe of the mass comes back to a basic knowledge of the needs and desires, which are short of the average person:

Have financial securityAvoiding risks
Getting out of debtEnjoy healthy; life
To talk capabilities during "Old school prospecting" requires requires mass appeal to generate the prospecting in the Internet copywriting skills.

Whats your prospects of minds?Consider, to break this later, people are online, you are in different frames of mind depending on what you do.

Here are a few examples:

Search engine usersPeople search, find a solution to a problem or you are always ready to buy.Blog readerIf people are reading blogs, you are in a news first or entertainment mentality.E-mail readerIf people read e-Mails, you often look with people to join you know - friends, relatives, people you Vertrauen-- and / or are "Let's be productive" in a State of mind.

None of this is "Fact", but it is to look at a useful model, how to connect with prospects on the Internet. So, for example, if you with prospects communication are or email leads, can write your e-Mail other than you, say we write a "How to" articles on some technical task würde.Der is point: not only must accommodate the wider driving forces of an a "mass audience", you must consider, where the audience encounters your marketing material.

Mind the gapNow, what about this reproduction thing? one of the major aspects of the "personal history" in single prospecting is that it gives the feeling views, it is no big difference between your success and their ability, personal relationship can the gap that apparently not so great is machen.Es no use for you, when your prospect thinks the same success to min. ", that sounds wonderful for you, but there is no way I can do."

When communicating to a mass audience one way, the gap is to bypass testimonials of average everyday to use people who "made it."You must underline the point that your past determine your future muss.Nicht in network marketing.(Or in life!)So put shoes yourself in your Outlook, when you prepare your Internet Marketing material and speak on these points:

What do you want? how can you give this opportunity, what you want? here is, what I and others achieved haben.Jeder it can tun.Das you can too.

Yes, you can.

Learn the psychology to communicate a mass audience on the Internet to improve your prospecting results.

Mixed Pair Winners! | Linda Lee

by Linda Lee on October 5th, 2010

The winner of the Mixed Pairs was Donna Compton of the USA and Fulvio Fantoni of Italy. Second place went to Kismet Fung of Canada playing with Brian Glubok of Italy. The top 10 had an international flavor with 9 Americans, a Canadian, 5 Italians, 2 Latvians, 2 Russia and a Chinese.

Does this help as you decide which countries (beside the US) will do well in the Open Teams. If you haven’t done so yet then enter the contest. It is easy, costs nothing and gives you a guaranteed prize. For details just click on the picture of the Philadelphia Nationals on the www.bridgeblogging.com

Congratulations to the winners. My special congratulations to Kismet who has represented Canada a number of times in Womens competitions. Well done.

For all the results.

Once again Bulletin is online the night before.  I think I better check to make sure that all the bulletins haven’t been written already.  The cover has a smiling Donna Compton and Fulvio Fantoni with their medals meeting with various officials.  Wow Donna’s smile says it all.

The Rosenblum and McConnell start tomorrow but it will be a while (round of 64) before we see any of it on BBO.  The Bulletin shows provisional groupings for the Rosenblum.  There are 16 groups of apparently 9 teams with presumably 4 teams qualifying from each group.  There are some intriguing team names.  The Italian stallions are all Americans and the Texan aces are a ll Indian except for one player and the playing captain.   It’s interesting to see so many multinational teams as I go through the list.  It is sure to be an amazing event.

The ladies event had only 37 teams entered on the website but maybe more have joined since.  It appears that they will play a round robin to go to 32.  It seems a bit unlikely.  The Seniors teams is even smaller with only 27 teams entered including Canada Master Point Press.  I think they have quite a good chance of winning a medal.  Go guys: Boris Baran, John Carruthers, John Gowdy, Eric Murray, Michael Shoenborn and Joey Silver.

When I checked the Verona event in 2006 the entry was about the same.  I wonder if the organizer expected a bigger tournament with the competition being held in the USA?

The theme song from the old movie "Mahogany" asks the question "Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you?" It's a good question for each of us to ask ourselves: "Do I like my life? Do I wake up each morning, not only excited about where my life is heading, but enthusiastic about the moment-to-moment journey as well?"

When we have a purpose in our life--an idea of how we want to express our self in the world--our days become meaningful, effective, and fulfilling. There is positive, enriching affirmation in our life and purposeful intention in all that we say and do.  We consciously give direction to the Divine Energy within us. We channel It, so to speak, like water through a dam, and there is Power in that directed movement! And, just like the power generated by water through a dam, the Power of Purpose can light up our whole life. In fact, we could say that a life without a purpose is like just so much water under the bridge.

Each of us is an individualization of Spirit, a point of consciousness in Universal Consciousness, a microcosm of the Macrocosm, a particularization of the Impartial and Unlimited. That's BIG potential! Unlimited Power is always available to us, ready and willing to bring about our heart's desire, and a life filled with love, peace, prosperity, and joy. But we experience only as much of It as we choose to use. Unless we call upon It, unless we actively draw from It, It remains unexpressed through us. But, when we have a purpose--a plan that motivates us, an idea that inspires us--we open up the floodgates through which the richness of Spirit can flow into our life. It gushes forth as we require of It. It surges through us as we make use of It.

If Spirit, through Its formative Power, will make our dream come true, we've got to have a dream in the first place, right? Do you have a dream? Did a dream come to mind just now when you read the question? Do you consciously know the kind of life you want to create? Is it alive and active in your mind? Would you recognize your dream if you were living it? Or, are you certain that you're not living your dream, but unclear what dream it is you're not living? Some of us have forgotten our dream. We're not sure anymore of what it is that we want to do that we're not doing. And, even worse, some of us are not only not dreaming or living our dream--we're living a nightmare! It's time to wake up from that nightmare and allow inner healing to take place.

How do we remember our dream and how does that dream actualize into our earthly experience? We begin to discover the dream within us by first acknowledging that there is one to be found. The Creator must have a purpose for Its creation. As part of that creation, every one of us has at our core a Divine, Holy Purpose...a reason for being, a unique part to play in the Dream that God is having. We all play an integral part in the Divine Picture of Creation, though often it may seem to us that only some people have a specific purpose in life, the "stars of show," while the rest of us appear to be simply aimless extras. But, despite seemingly contrary evidence, the Divine Idea includes each of us living at our fullest potential.

Everyone has the same potential for greatness in life, and by "greatness" I mean a self-expression that is spiritually magnificent and fulfilling whether the rest of the world knows that we exist or not. The important thing is that God knows we exist. Spirit knows who we are and why we are to the most minute detail. Even the hairs on our head are numbered!  We don't exist for the purpose of making an "impression" on our environment, but rather to discover and express our self in and through our environment. The only true meaning in life, our life, is that we LIVE IT!

As children, we all had an idea that we were special; so distinctive, in fact, that we knew that we were going to be famous one day. We weren't going to be just a ballerina, but a world-famous prima ballerina, or a movie star, or President of the United States. We were aware of the Power of our potential, and we felt naturally unique and important. But then, as we began to grow up in the world, and spend a little time with the prejudices and opinions that accompany earth life, and only some people seemed important, we began to think that maybe life was made up of superstars, heroes, and extras. But, the Inner Truth that we were aware of as children hasn't changed. It is still at the heart of our being, ready to energize us with inspiration and motivation, and fill our days with the joy of self-expression. We are still special and important to the full expression of creation. There is still Power in our potential!

As snowflakes and fingerprints have shown us, nothing in nature is an exact duplication. Therefore, there is no one who expresses life quite the way you do. Each of us is unique even though it is the One Spirit expressing through each of us--as each of us. Who we are will not be duplicated in all of eternity! Our "purpose," then, is to tap into the Dream that God is having and give that dream a unique outlet in our life. Our thoughts "tap into" the One Power, each of us uses the One Creative Principle, but as we do, each of us brings forth a different result.

How do we discover our spiritual identity? How do we find our unique role in the Dream that God is dreaming? How can we know what will best express the spiritual ideal at the core of our being? We can begin by asking ourselves what it is that we truly love to do:  "What is it that I would love to do even if I didn't get paid to do it? What is it that I would do with no strings attached and for nothing material in return? What is it that, when I do it, I feel the most connected with Life and the most centered and fulfilled within myself? What is that thing that, when I'm doing it, everything else in my world could be falling by the wayside and I could still feel content doing it?"

Close your eyes before you continue reading, and think about it for a moment: the thing that you would do for free is the very thing that will set you free...

The impulse toward your spiritual growth and the pathway that leads to your self-knowledge lie within that activity--because as you do that thing, you will naturally call upon the Divine qualities within you. You will require them and use them, and you will learn more about the Power within you.

It is essential to our spiritual evolution that we pursue our greatest joy or, as Joseph Campbell put it: 'follow our bliss." If you already know what it is that you love to do, are you doing it at least part of the time every day? Often we divide our lives into what we love to do and what we have to do. We have an idea of the life we'd like to live "one day," but we often view it as a fantasy--an ideas whose time may never really come. But, as we do what we love to do, even part of the day, we activate the dream within us, and the Power behind our dream brings about the ways and means for us to live it in real time. We don't have to worry about how we can make a job out of the thing we love to do. That's the function of the Universal Power within us. When we have a definite purpose in mind, when we fill our imagination with a specific desire, and then keep our thought fixed on the concept that Intelligent Energy is giving form, every moment, to our dream, then we will begin to recognize those forms taking place in our life.

Your dream doesn't need to be "awe-inspiring" to anyone else but you! A young woman I knew a few years ago was a very enthusiastic new student of mental healing and mental attraction. Barbara would share, often unsolicited, all the good things that were happening in her life to anyone who would pause long enough to listen. Her sister, Nancy, was one of those people. Barbara called her one day to tell her about an empowering seminar she'd just attended where she had gotten in touch with her dream to be an artist. She'd been so excited about her discovery that she'd not only gone out and purchased new canvases and oils, but was looking for a space for her first showing. Nancy tried to feel happy for her sister, but she'd lost her job at the library because of cuts in the the county budget, and though she'd been looking through the want ads religiously, she hadn't found anything that looked like fulfilling employment. Barbara said excitedly, "You know, Sis, you can do anything you truly want to do!" Nancy tried not to feel irritated by her sister's enthusiasm, but her sister hadn't been looking through the classifieds for a week and coming up empty. Nancy responded half-jokingly that the only thing that she truly liked to do was to sit in the big, comfortable chair in her den with her cat, Fluffy, on her lap and read a good book. She added that a few Oreo cookies and a cup of hot tea would be nice, too! Barbara was uncharacteristically silent for a moment, and then said confidently, "Okay, then there's something wonderful for you that meets that description, including the Oreos and tea, because I know without a doubt that there is a Power within you that can and will give form to your vision! You can know it, too!" Nancy agreed to keep it in mind.

The following week Nancy sat in her big den chair, a cup of tea on the end table and Fluffy curled up on her lap, and scanned the want ads. She tried not to be disappointed when she found nothing of interest. She was doing as her sister had said, she was knowing that there was a Power within her that was willing to give her her heart's desire. And that even though she couldn't see it happening, she'd been feeling confident, even empowered, that there was something Good in motion. Then the telephone rang and a friend whom she hadn't talked with since leaving her job asked her if she was still looking for work. When Nancy said Yes, the friend told her that her brother, a script reader for a Hollywood studio, had a backlog of scripts and needed an assistant. The pay was good and the best part was that Nancy could do all the reading at home.

Needless to say that Nancy took the job. In fact, after reading a few scripts, she was so inspired that she wrote one of her own. Today, Nancy is a successful script writer.

There isn't a desire too small for Life to acknowledge or a plan too grand for the Power within you to bring it about. The very inspiration for our dreams comes from the Spirit within us and, surely, Spirit can bring about whatever It inspires. Our heart's desire can lay dormant within us for a lifetime or it was blossom into expression and we can experience the time of our life. Our life on earth is truly what we choose to make of it, no matter how it began or where it appears to be headed. Your dream is waiting for you to come true. Choose to use your Inner Power.

Duplicate Bridge: How to Play, How to Win

Do you play Bridge? If you do, the chapter titles of Duplicate Bridges will have special meanings. If you don't, that's OK. You have real bridges to cross and can relate to their challenges. Single mom, kids, a new career? Is there anyone out there for me? These are the bridges that the author, Esther Cleveland, refers to in Duplicate Bridges. Bridges are made for people to get from one place to another, usually to avoid dangerous terrain. Some are visibly safe and others are questionable. (Having a warning sign on them.) Some are uncharted and you don't know what to expect, but someone on the other side is urging you to cross. The main decision is whether to trust that other person. Promises may be great, but should I take the chance? Find out about her adventures and decisions in Duplicate Bridges.

Why a simple "Linear" business plan

Thinking outside the box of home business entrepreneurs is good for the brain, and discover new different channels. Associative thinking or lateral thinking brings different elements from different concepts and philosophies. Your creative brain then streamlined as all these parts fit together. And the result is a diverse, varied, greater concentration of what works. Compare creative thinking a painting where you start with a blank canvas, add shapes. Lines, textures, colors, objects, impressions and what you get is possibly a masterpiece: a sum greater than their individual parts. Reverse deductive thinking is also useful when a complex large image to take and reduce on key elements for purposes of understanding.

I recently read a book called Simpleology by Mark Joyner, the simple science of getting what you want. The interesting ideas relating how we perceive the world and build as we obstacles to get even more important to blockieren.Aber what we really want, sometimes invisible, it started the thought processes, how they apply these principles for the big picture of a home business.

The most important requirement is that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line ist.Mit in other words, the shortest way to go, where you are, where you want to be, a straight line. No fuzzification... no detours... no excuses or restrictions.

This picture in your mind's eye, or it could actually draw.Start with a blank Seite.Zeichnen of a straight line (use a ruler, if you wish) begins in the lower left corner and travelling diagonally in the upper right corner. In the lower corner write the words I'm here to and write a few details of what dislikes about where you are now.On the upper corner write THERE IS WHERE I WANT TO BE and add a few details of what you do want, make your life happier... paid more money, more time to spend with family, holidays, credit card, and so on.

The point is the shortest distance between here is this straight line, I am and it IS WHERE I WANT TO BE.Es symbolizes that targeted towards clear get objections to your Ziel.Keine vision and positive self-determination... no procrastinations... no regrets.

The fastest way to achieve your goals is a straight line to folgen.Wenn this actually possible is to achieve two things:
1. Focus on simple actions you your goals to, gain rather than actions, you run off course
2. the gap between reality and dreams.

Consider it building a profitable Geschäft.Es gives each company's four main functions:
Production (need a product or service)
Research (trends)
Sales and marketing
bursaries tracking

"The four functions the experts think that marketing and sales is the basic function without the other relevant would be.""You can develop the best mousetrap in the world, but without marketing, nobody will beat a path to your door."

The marketing plan shall each home business or any other company for that matter a genuine, tangible, in my hands, person to person part.

Logically, a successful marketing plan entspricht.Erweitern on the Simpleology is more contacts, more sales, more customers and more profit principles, then, marketing plan a successful home business and function as a simple, direct "Linear" follows.

So let's visualize this scenario.

Draw another straight diagonal line from bottom to top.It label this time the MARKET PLAN.Add the word poor start on the floor and finish rich at the beginning.

Two themes are clear:

(1) a simple marketing tool communicates clearly and time effectively overload with unnecessary details... more calls to Kunden.Warum with extensions, supplements, statistics, references, links and what can think my neighbor? if you reach the advantages and goal you greater financial security basically understand would why someone deliberately itself quicksand, known as "analysis paralysis?" set in

(b) a simple marketing tool duplicates more efficiently with your marketing team as well... less training, fewer distractions, fewer objections, less procrastination and further reproduction, whether on the road or the country without losing critical elements with more money in your pocket.

Sure, made significant adjustments in my home business, streamlines profits that with this approach a simple "straight line" to increase my marketing plan was drawn up on three no excuses allowed elements:
1. a call with expert sales presentation (5 minutes... interested or not)
2. Company website with detailed information (for self reference)
3. a simple 1-2-3 step marketing plan, the view changes to streamline choices and steps and actions to "Close" or the final decision.

If people stop block your way along this straight Linie.Was your priority is feeling like your aunt Millicent... or reach financial independence? who need only information whose personalities, then, of course you are to other ample resources verwiesen.Aber you now redirect...Transformed in a few turns, adding some potholes... maybe a sign that reads, "I'll spend the rest of my life for someone else to work.";

Chilly in Philly | Memphis MOJO

Above: Some of the 426 players get ready for the 1st session of the Mixed Pairs Plate.

In Philadelphia, the weather outside was chilly, but the bridge was quite hot inside the Downtown Marriott where the World Bridge Series Championship is being held.

I just returned from playing. Kate and I played three days in the Mixed Pairs. There were three sessions of qualifying and 156 pairs made it into the final -- unfortunately, we weren't one of them. We hovered around average and never seemed to get things rolling. We were in good company as many world champions also didn't make the cut.

Some of the non-qualifiers chose not to play in the Mixed Pairs Plate (the closed consolation). I understand that they would be disappointed, but I can't really imagine not playing. I believe 213 pairs finished the Plate and we were 28th with a composite score of 54.43%. This was not as good as we hoped, but not disgraceful. For comparison, Jeff Meckstroth and his fiance Sally Chapleau were 16th with 55.72%.

Players came to play from all over. I'm not sure how many countries were represented, but more than 50. We even played against a pair from Cuba -- I'm glad to say that bridge can transcend petty politics.

You can see from the photo above, that we played behind screens. We also entered scores on a BridgeMate, an electronic scoring device that sends the results to the directors after each round. The second session, I was taking care of the tray that is used to send the boards back and forth, as well as doing the BridgeMate and keeping a private score. My partner, Kate, ordered me to let her keep a private score and let her handle the boards and tray. Well, ok, she didn't order me, but she was perceptive enough to see that it's easy to become distracted, so she volunteered to do some of the "work."

Here's a deal that was written up in the Daily Bulletin. The opponents against Jeff Meckstroth were in 1NT. He led a low spade from ?K Q 8 x x. His partner won the ace and returned the suit. He won the ?Q, cashed the ?K, and his partner played the ?2, encouraging. The dummy had started with ?9 x x x and declarer ?J 10 doubleton.

Meckstroth didn't lead another spade to set up his 5th card in that suit. The dummy had ?K x x and Meckstroth had ?Q x x, so he shifted to the queen and was rewarded when his partner had the ?A J 10 left and they held the contract to one (yes, the ?2 was the setting trick, but he won't find the shift without that play). Holding it to one was a huge score. I'm mentioning it because Kate and I found the same defense, card for card. That's the fun of playing in a tournament like this -- you get to try and match wits against the world's best.

I'll have some more deals, tidbits, thoughts and reflections tomorrow (or Thursday) when I've had a chance to catch my breath. In the meantime, you can find results, Daily Bulletins and a lot more if you go here.

When God confused the languages at Babel, the communication barrier was so impenetrable that the people ceased building the tower ... and their city. God then scattered them "over the face of the whole earth" (Gen 11:8). This language confusion was a stupendous miracle. Brains were rewired into brand new languages ... instantaneously. But, this is just part of what occurred. Even memories were reprogrammed. Otherwise, a now "foreign voice" in one's head would surely drive one mad ... and a person would also have lost all cumulative knowledge. Furthermore, it is highly probable that each one so changed thought they were speaking correctly - and everyone else was speaking ... babble.

But, Babel was just the initial confusion of the languages. Over the millennia, languages have continued to fracture - and some have even expired. Translators work to build bridges across these communication divides.

The Herculean Task

Translating from one language to another, in a contemporary setting, is a daunting task. Problems include vocabulary and syntax, and also literary devices possessed by each language (I'll discuss some in Koine Greek below). But, all languages sport "exceptions to the rules" - along with peculiar "figures of speech" - and even slang.

But, ... what about translating an extinct language into a modern language? This, in my estimation, makes an already daunting task even more overwhelming. There is no living speaker with whom a translator can work. As you probably already know, the Bible was written in what are now extinct languages. Fortunately, because of the enduring interest in these documents, there is a trail of bread crumbs we can follow back through history as we seek to understand what these authors wrote (Incidently, "a trail of bread crumbs" is a figure of speech that, if literally translated into some other language ... would likely be complete nonsense).

The Hebrew Scriptures

To give you an idea of the task facing the translator of Biblical Hebrew, consider this. Starting around 250 B.C., the Jews themselves realized the need to translate their Hebrew texts ... into Greek! And why was that? Well, after the Babylonian exile, ancient Hebrew faded and was replaced by Aramaic. They rightly knew that as time continued to pass it would be increasingly difficult for people to understand anything from that extinct language. But Greek had actually arisen as the more universal language. So, they translated the extinct Hebrew into Greek - and called it the Septuagint (or LXX). Supposedly, seventy translators undertook this project. But, as the entire work was not completed until about 150 B.C., it is clear there were many different translators - some more learned than others and some more meticulous than others.

Furthermore, they had no original (extant) documents to work from, so, they were working from copies. The chances of textual variants already being present is certain. We have the same situation as we work with New Testament texts. Furthermore, from our vantage point, not only is this Northwest Semitic Hebrew language still extinct (those two words are strange when put together) but the Greek of the Septuagint translators is also long gone. It predates the Koine Greek of the New Testament ... which is another extinct language. This really should not surprise anyone too much. All languages evolve - and history is littered with languages and dialects ... that have simply vanished.

The Greek Scriptures

It is here I want to share some examples of Koine Greek distinctives. Multiply these examples by the thousands ... and you will begin to get a feel for the translator's task.

Word Order

Koine Greek often uses word order as a tool to express emphasis. A literal translation of 2Timothy 3:1 would be more like: "This but you must know, that in last days will stand in for themselves times ferocious." This word order is quite awkward for us. For example, English normally places an adjective just before the noun it modifies (i.e., ferocious times). But, in this verse, the adjective (ferocious) is at the end of the sentence (in the predicate position) quite deliberately. Timothy was commanded to know, and expect, that the last times will be ... what ? Pleasant times? Peaceful times? Joyous times? By holding this adjective back until the last possible moment - Koine Greek "punches" the reader. The entire thought is waiting ... for that adjective. This is a powerful literary device in Koine Greek. The faithful translator will grapple to convey such important subtleties when transferring this information from one language into another.

Personal Pronouns

Koine Greek also often uses personal pronouns for added emphasis. For example, all Koine Greek verbs already include person and number. So, "eimi" means "I am." But, "ego eimi" means, "I, I am." This duplication means, "Don't miss this." At the end of a heated exchange with the Pharisees, Jesus wanted to make sure His murderers-to-be did not miss this declaration: "Truly, truly (this duplication is yet another device of emphasis to arrest attention for this conclusion), I am saying to all of you, before Abraham was generated - I, I am." They clearly "got" the message. And how do I know that? "Therefore, they picked up stones to throw at Him" (Jn 8:58,59), and later said, "You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God" (Jn 10:33). What they did not "get" was this declaration ... was not blasphemy.

The Double Negative ... and Beyond!

I think I just committed a grievous error in the previous sentence. It has a double negative. In my checkered past, a church I once pastored chose not to "renew the contract" (a politically correct way of saying, "You're fired!"). One of the charges levied against me ... I used double negatives in my sermons. Interestingly, Koine Greek uses double negatives (and even a quintuple negative) - for emphasis. I wanted to say to my detractors, "You know, if the Holy Spirit is okay using double negatives, you might want reconsider this charge." But, being the benevolent, gentle soul that I am, I decided to let that go. In fact, I also let go charges of "failing to attract and keep a crowd" (after ten whole months), "desecrating the sanctuary" (by leaving props on the stage after a Vacation Bible School week), and "using too many personal illustrations" in my sermons. Oh well, ... such is life. By the way, here is the quintuple negative (which if you count the first part of the passage - a hextuple), "Not cherishing silver the habit (of your life), being satisfied with the existing things, for He Himself has said, 'Not no you I might leave, nor not no you I might abandon'" (Heb 13:5). God is emphatically saying to those He has committed Himself to - He is not going anywhere ... even if your contract is not renewed.

Compound Words

The verse just referenced demonstrates another Koine Greek literary device. Often words are intensified by compounding them - particularly with some preposition. The simple verb for "abandon" is, "leipo." But, in Hebrews 13:5 the word is, "egkataleipo." In this instance, two prepositions are added, "en" and "kata." This hyper intensified verb carries a sense of "utter abandonment" or an "absolute desertion." Bottom line - as His child, you might "grieve Him" (Eph 4:30), "quench Him" (1Thes 5:19), or run to the desert or pig sty, but if you are His ... He will not be shaken off (1Cor 11:32, Heb 12:5-11).

There's More

I could go on and on. Koine Greek has a Middle Voice available for verbs as well as a Perfect Tense. It also has a distinct Imperative Mood. All these things make Koine Greek very specific. But, it lacks punctuation, spaces, chapters, verses - some things that I think commend English translations. And our bolding, italicizing and underlining helps us express emphasis in our writing.

My point is to help you see that translating truly is ... a science ... and an art. This is an overused phrase, but it is accurate. The primary goal of a Bible translator is to pick a group and bring God's word to them in terms they understand - while being totally faithful to the original author's intent. If they are worth their salt, they will succeed in doing this for a contemporary audience that is of a different age, language and culture than the Bible's authors. This is not easy. And all societies even have subcultures who communicate uniquely.

Conclusion ... Sort Of

The documents that form the Bible are continuously studied and scrutinized. As more archaeological finds are discovered, and further breakthroughs in vocabulary and syntax are made on these ancient languages (oftentimes through comparative studies), and as long as contemporary languages keep evolving ... the work of the translator will never end. Praise God for the good ones - the honest ones - the rightly learned ones. They have helped me in my journey ... and continue to do so.

Jennbridge: World Mixed Pairs Finals |

We had a below average and an average game in the final two sessions of the World Mixed Pairs and finished above average--in the top third of the field. Bob says we should be proud, as dozens of stellar pairs finished behind us, but I can’t help feeling disappointed after our great start.

It was actually a fun event. We used screens in each session and used special World Bridge Federation convention cards . The men always sat North and West and the women South and East. In the 3 qualifying sessions we sat East-West and in the 3 final sessions we sat North-South.  We never played the same pair twice.

I’m writing up hands on the flight home and will be posting some of my favorite hands from the finals. It seemed particularly tense in the last session as each pair was jockeying for position and each hand could mean the difference between several places in the standings. These two hands feature interesting card combinations.

Board 4.

I opened one heart with:

? A104
? AKQ74
? 6
? K642

Partner responded 2 hearts, constructive, showing 3 trumps, 8-10 points and 9 losers. As I had the right loser count and was looking for a good board I made a help suit game try of 3 clubs. Partner accepted by bidding 3 notrump. With my singleton I wasn’t especially interested in notrump so I corrected to 4 hearts. A diamond was led and the dummy was not something to dream about:

? Q862
? J106
? A104
? Q95

? A104
? AKQ74
? 6
? K642

Barring some incredible luck I had two club losers and at least one spade loser, along with assorted handling problems. I won the diamond ace and made what turned out to be a key play: a low spade to the ten which forced the king.

LHO continued diamonds which I ruffed. I started trumps by playing a heart to the jack and a heart back to my hand and my problems were compounded when LHO showed out on the second heart.

I next tried a club to the queen which lost to the ace. RHO returned the 9 of diamonds (diamond 10 left in dummy) and I paused to consider the play. If I ruffed, I would be left with fewer trumps than my RHO which couldn’t be right, so I elected to pitch a losing club. LHO won the diamond and paused to consider the defense. He couldn’t continue diamonds without giving me a ruff/sluff and was probably reluctant to return a club, so he exited with a low spade. I played low from the board and won the jack with the ace.

I couldn’t afford to lose any more tricks with the remaining cards:

? Q8
? 10
?
? Q95

? 4
? KQ
?
? K6

I started thinking about the spades. What spade would RHO have played on the previous trick if she had started with J9x? As the jack and 9 were equals once the ten had been played, she probably would have played the jack, the card she was known to hold.  Her in-tempo play and my partial count on the hand, however, caused me to strongly suspect that she started with the jack doubleton of spades.  This meant that LHO started with K9xx of spades and I could finesse the 8. I therefore drew the remaining trumps, cashed the club king and led a spade to the 8, winning the last two tricks and scoring up my game! This was worth 82% of the matchpoints.

LHO held K953/9/KJ8753/73

RHO held J7/8532/Q92/AJ108

Board 11.

Playing 3 notrump with these cards I got a diamond lead:

? J963
? KJ4
? A5
? A1082

? A4
? AQ82
? K83
? Q954

With 8 winners available and only one more diamond stopper, the problem was how to play the club suit for at most one loser. Usually in this situation, it is right to lead the queen from your hand and then, if it loses, later lead toward the 10, a double finesse. This caters to the club honors being divided or LHO holding both honors, a 75% chance. Before starting on clubs, however, I decided to cash my 4 heart tricks to see if I could learn anything useful. Hearts broke 3-3 and on the 4th round of hearts LHO discarded the 3 of clubs!

Surely he wouldn’t throw a club with anything useful in the suit, looking at A1082 in the dummy, so I decided to change my plan and play clubs differently. Accordingly I led a club to the ace and was rewarded when RHO followed with the jack and then the king on the second round of clubs. She started with KJ doubleton! Scoring 430 was worth 76% of the matchpoints.

LHO held: Q75/1093/J642/763

RHO held: K1082/765/Q1097/KJ

Stay tuned for more hands from Philadelphia.  The world championship events will continue through Oct. 16.  For more information, daily bulletins and results, check out:

Bridge out! Consumer-driven health plans change is how we get care

Bridge: sign A road never really want to see. His appearance in your path means that there has been an error and that you have a new way of getting to find where to go. The rise of consumer-driven health plans specifies that the era of managed care control increased costs and demand for care, that many things about the way that we could receive health care in the United States.

End of August 2006 WellPoint one of the nation insurance providers, largest, has on record stating that in 2007 you the first insurer to consumer-driven health plans in all countries and for all kinds of people to have (from important employers for small groups for individual plans).

"Our customers that these consumer-driven products need opportunities for healthier life due to this first-of-its-kind offer with national, lead" WellPoint CEO, Larry Glassock

The press release also continues to share:

«We are empowering consumers through unique and robust online tools and incentives that encourage and reward healthier lifestyle you chose...» "«Life consumer» to choose the Lumenos coaching and smoking are beyond for comprehensive preventive care and personal health setting and weight management programs eligible. over most will receive financial rewards consumers for completing the various wellness programmes."

WOW! That sounds great, right allerNun, I always these things to read and think about what know my parents and my in-laws on health care / health policy and what you would think.

Will so for those of you not familiar with this new type of health plan, translating them produce significant changes as care reimbursed wird.Verbraucherorientierten health plans to some of the financial decisions and responsibility for the people, consume the services in the health sector to move that. Key components include health savings accounts and high deductible for this new type of health plan. The thinking is to identify patients, how to spend your healthcare dollars.

When to buy, in conventional economic theory than for the healthcare industry is this try no bad way to control escalating costs.Since the prices for services has a direct impact on demand for services, in theory, this type of plan has the potential to reduce duplication of services and unnecessary load (more expensive) higher levels of care. In very simple terms if patients required, share your care to some financial responsibility to the cheapest, most effective care are more likely then select.

There are at least two very large rubs this plan.First, can make appropriate decisions consumers need to know the cost of maintenance. While it seems simple enough, a doctor or is significantly different than an agreed rate billing rate for a service. And permissible load or a contractually agreed rate is clearly abnormalities than the current amount for services by an insurer or other third party payers understand gezahlt. So healthcare consumers, all these make the appropriate decisions take. healthcare providers can inform a system for the consumers to establish the cost for a service. While this seems simple enough, it becomes more complex if you understand any single, solitary insurance differs on deductible Copay, contractually agreed, reimbursement rate.

Second will be to chose cheapest, effective treatment to healthcare consumers who know and understand your treatment options. This means that you need to better understand the science behind their diseases and the science behind the treatments possible. This would be a much easier if we went back to the old world model of having of health care providers that develop rapport and patient provider relationship of trust konnten. In of the past received the provider, the time and opportunity to truly partner with individuals to understand the complexity of maintaining and developing a really Individualzed treatment that best fit the patient/consumer demand. But in the days of the 15 minute visit, this is becoming increasingly difficult to do.

President Bush's recent Executive order [http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/08/20060822-2.html] push for many things, including transparency of pricing information is an attempt, the problem of understanding the financial aspects.

However, as ensure we individuals who have information that you, need to get the best treatment? in reality you are to physicians and health providers of care, their ability to understand and evaluate individual cases and circumstances, the best resources to support individuals who have these decisions to treffen.Allerdings probably new ways this do the cost and time develop efficient healthcare providers this new ways to entwickeln.Wenn, consumers/patients are left, left to themselves.

If consumers sufficiently to educate or access to resources/supporters that help you then this plan to fail verurteilt.Kosten will not be included, health are not preserved and access to appropriate and effective supply remains vulnerable be.
